Progression & Guidance

Teachers at Dancer’s Dream Studio (DDS) reserve the right to place students in the appropriate class level based on:

  • Technical ability

  • Learning pace

  • Emotional and behavioural maturity

Class placement is not limited by age.

  • Students are evaluated every term, and progression decisions are made by teachers accordingly.

  • As a general practice, DDS progresses entire classes together to ensure consistency in training and group development, unless a dancer is selected for Advanced Classes.

Progression is a long-term process.

  • For example, some Bronze-level students have trained consistently since Twinkle Tots and required approximately 3 - 4 years to progress as a class.

  • A dancer may be placed in a class with a lower average age for 3 - 4 terms to build a strong technical foundation before advancing.

Latin dance training includes five disciplines; Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Jive and Paso Doble - each with distinct techniques and expectations at different stages of learning. We appreciate parents’ trust in the teachers’ professional judgement, which is exercised in the best interest of each dancer’s development.

1. Preparation

  • Ensure all components are prepared in advance (costumes, shoes, hair and make-up)

  • Be mindful of schedules, reporting times and commitments

2. Managing Expectations

  • Understand the level of preparation and commitment required

  • Set realistic goals for exams and competitions

  • Identify areas for improvement

  • Discuss performance anxieties openly

  • Recognise that results may be affected by external factors

3. Working in Partnership with DDS

  • Trust the guidance of teachers and coaches

  • Support self-practice at home

  • Submit self-practice videos to the DDS WhatsApp or BAND App for feedback

  • Participate in cross-training opportunities when available

  • Use recommended resources (e.g. videos) to support learning

Providing Healthy Support and Guidance

  • Dance training supports the development of confidence, resilience and discipline.

  • Challenges are a natural and expected part of the learning journey for both dancers and parents.

  • Performances, competitions and assessments may feel daunting regardless of experience level.

Common Challenges Faced by Dancers

New Dancers

  • Uncertainty about expectations

  • Performance anxiety or stage fright

  • Forgetting required items (e.g. shoes, costumes)

  • Unrealistic expectations of outcomes

Seasoned Dancers

  • Ongoing performance anxiety

  • Lapses in preparedness

  • Unrealistic expectations

  • Difficulty distinguishing between healthy and unhealthy competition

“If you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail.”

Professional Boundaries Policy – Students, Parents & TeachersWe’re so grateful for the supportive community here, and our teachers love connecting with you all. To make sure that every student feels equally valued and to maintain fairness, we do have a professional boundary policy in place. At Dancer's Dream Studio, we are committed to creating a safe, respectful, and focused environment where all students can thrive. To support this, we kindly ask all students and parents to observe the following boundaries with our teaching staff.🚫 No Outside Social Engagements
To maintain fairness, professionalism, and impartiality in our studio environment:
Students and parents should not invite teachers to personal gatherings, such as birthday parties or casual outings outside of studio-sanctioned events.
Teachers are also advised not to accept such invitations from current students or parents during their time of employment with the studio.
🤝 Professional Interactions Only
Communication between teachers and students/parents should remain within studio hours and official studio channels (BAND chats or studio line).
Private messaging or social media interactions between students/parents and teachers should be avoided unless it is directly related to class matters.
🌿 Off-Days Are Sacred
Teachers deserve rest and downtime. Please avoid contacting teachers directly on their scheduled off-days unless it's an emergency or urgent studio-related matter.
All non-urgent matters can be addressed during studio hours through the DDS whatsapp line or when they're not on duty.🧠 Mental Space & Boundaries
Please understand that teachers may not be available to reply to messages late at night, during personal hours, or when they're not on duty.
💬 Use Studio Channels
For any questions or concerns, our studio managers team is your first point of contact.
Why This Matters?

  1. These boundaries protect both the student and teacher from misunderstandings or perceptions of favouritism.

  2. It ensures that all students receive equal attention and treatment, and that teachers can focus on delivering the best instruction without external pressure.

  3. This allows our teachers to focus on what they do best—teaching and inspiring your children—without the stress of managing multiple personal conversations.

  4. By giving our teachers the space they need to recharge, we support a healthier and happier environment for everyone.

  5. We appreciate your support in maintaining a respectful and professional studio culture.
